Would not recommend having Mr. Betz as your child’s GAL. I would request for someone else to represent…. He just likes collects paychecks, and I’ve considered reporting to the bar! I went through a custody case, and David was on our case representing my child. He had maybe a 2 minute phone call with me… to see if I had a child safety locks and if my house was clean. Did not ask any other questions. Long story short… He then charged $2,000 for his nonexistent services. He also charged my child’s father. So he cost $4,000 to have his name on the petition and that’s it.

Terrible Experience with Guardian ad Litem - Would Not Recommend. If he is assigned ask for a new GAL

My son was assigned David Betz as his GAL and If we could give zero stars, we would. WE experienced the same experience as other reviews. We had one 40 minute phone meeting with him, No home visits or any other contact and the cost was almost $4,000.

Mr. Betz's lack of engagement with the case was frustrating and his contrubution to the case was useless. He seems to only care about his money.. He is supposed to be concerned about the childs best interest, but money far outweighed any concern he may say he has.

If you're assigned David Betz as a Guardian ad Litem do not expect someone who is invested in your child's welfare or someone who will provide thorough support or work in the case. I would strongly suggest considering other options. I 100% do not believe Mr. Betz's involvement was helpful in our case, and I can only hope that in future court proceedings, he will not be assigned to ANY case again. I think David Betz is someone who gives attorneys a bad name.

Disappointing Experience with Guardian ad Litem – Would Not Recommend

If I could give zero stars, I would. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Mr. David Betz as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for child custody cases. The role of a GAL is to represent the best interests of the child, ensuring that custody and visitation decisions prioritize the child’s welfare. Unfortunately, my experience with Mr. Betz did not reflect this responsibility.

First, I was concerned about potential bias when I discovered that Mr. Betz was highly enthusiastic about a private school my daughter’s father had enrolled her in—without my involvement in the process. After meeting with him, I found that Mr. Betz himself was an alumnus of that school. This raised red flags about his impartiality. While I understand the importance of education in a custody case, his apparent favoritism toward one parent due to this connection was troubling.

Furthermore, Mr. Betz's handling of the case itself was less than thorough. He suggested to the judge that my ex should be granted sole legal custody based primarily on the private school choice. Thankfully, the judge did not follow this recommendation, but it was a concerning moment, especially given the lack of substantial evidence supporting such a drastic decision.

Additionally, the fees charged by Mr. Betz were exorbitant. Between my ex and me, we were expected to pay over $5,000, yet his involvement in the case was minimal. I had perhaps one hour of phone conversation with him, and I don’t believe he spent much time communicating with my ex either. We met in his office once with my lawyer present and he didn't seem to care about anything presented. Mr. Betz attended court only three times and never conducted a home visit or spoke with my daughter. In fact, he didn't even meet my child in person.

To say that Mr. Betz's lack of engagement with the case was frustrating would be an understatement. He seemed irritated at times and offered very little insight or support during this difficult process. His services, in my opinion, were a poor investment, as they didn’t serve the best interests of my daughter or our family.

If you're seeking a Guardian ad Litem who is genuinely invested in your child's welfare and will provide thorough, impartial support, I would strongly suggest considering other options. Unfortunately, I do not believe Mr. Betz’s involvement was helpful or fair in our case, and I can only hope that in future court proceedings, he will not be assigned to our case again.

I have worked with Mr. Betz a number of times and have always found him to be a wonderful GAL and mediator. He does the work, gets things done, and cares about the tasks and people involved. I highly recommend him as both a GAL and mediator.
