I went to get something notarized here a couple years ago. I had a valid notary commission at the time but I needed to have an item notarized for a client and the person requesting the item wouldn't accept me doing it myself.

I went to the UPS store first and they told me their notary wasn't in but that the insurance spot next door had a notary. I go into the insurance business and hand the notary my document. She tells me she can't notarize it because it's already signed and that I need to bring another copy of it without a signature and sign it in front of her. I tell her I have a notary commission and that if she has a notary handbook I can show her the section where it says this document doesn't need to be signed in front of her. She gets a nasty attitude and tells me she's not going to notarize it unless I sign it in front of her and then tells me I should notarize it myself if I know so much.

So, I take the document down the street to an accountant spot I know that has a licensed notary in the office. I walk in and say I have this document but I already signed it and ask if they can notarize it. The notary looks it over and says this type of document doesn't need to be signed in front of her. She notarizes it.
