I gave Ushma a five-star!! She is really good and helped us a lot on our child's IEP. She is very professional in special education advocacy. Our child is autistic and is in the first grade elementary school with an IEP. The school tends to direct our child to their special education class, which we didn't like. We got some updated IEP from school, but don't know if it is ok to sign it or how to sign it. I contacted Ushma and asked her to take a look at the IEP. She correctly pointed out potential issues in that IEP and represented us in the IEP meeting. Her presence in the meeting helped us tremendously when dealing with the school. We are very happy with the outcomes. While communicating with Ushma, she also provided us a valuable consulting and made us better on understanding regulations related to IEP. We found Ushma and Orange County Law via our ARAG legal insurance. It was a major boon for us as we were having some issues with our local high school and their support (or lack thereof) of our daughter and we really needed assistance understanding our/her rights. State and federal laws surrounding education and support for kids with disabilities is not straight forward. Ushma took the time to speak with us at length about our rights and what we wanted from the school for our daughter, she also took care of correspondence between us and district and attended meetings with school personnel. She also reviewed the documentation sent to us and spotted problems with language, requesting revisions in our favor. We felt well supported throughout the process, which by itself was a major positive as before hiring her we really did feel out of our depth.
