Our daughter Meghan Camille Leftwich worked at Neighborhood Legal Services. She was so proud of being a paralegal at such an amazing organization. Over the several years she worked there on site and then from home, she was able to help hundreds of people.
I witnessed many of her phone consultation sessions with people in desperate need of help and know first hand how important it is to have a free legal service like this one.
Thank You to this highly qualified and kind staff.
Her coworkers sent us a beautiful signed card on her birthday this year October 2, 2024. Each person wrote a short message about how much she contributed and how well she was liked by only the staff, but by the clients.
Tragically our daughter passed away on December 2, 2022. But I was so inspired by her work and the work done by this organization that I created a video to honor her.
I am happy to share it with you on FaceBook.

If only zero stars were an option.

These are the most passive aggressive people I've ever met. It took them 2 and a half months to make 1 phone call I could have and have done myself. They called it an "investigation". And sent me a letter closing my case. Didn't inform me through email or voicemail of their plan to call or close. Only after the fact for both.

I seriously don't know what they do. They might as well be 5 year olds playing dress up. A complete joke. Only this isn't funny because clearly people are getting screwed when they went to them for help in the first place. Usually because they're already being screwed in some way. And that is the last thing you need at a time like that. I know how hard it is to advocate for yourself trust me, I have autism myself.. but just go to the library or courthouse or google.. anywhere else. If you can, try and do it yourself. These people will slow you down for no reason and in some cases you might need to act quick to keep your cases more relevant. Good luck.

Excellence and professionalism along with human kindness in Room 350/at Van Nuys Court. First come first serve. Fill the application, go to window, get greeted, you are set up to a computer or get individual help to fill out your forms. Lost of staff always attentive in your progress. When done on the PC, staff checks your forms for accuracy and relevance. A lawyer checks for a final draft and you are ready to go to the second floor to the Clerks office to return your forms. Clerks review your docs once more and stamp all proper boxes. You are send to deliver the docs to the Judge’s room. Wait until the judge gives a veredicto and obtain an answer on the spot. All this process takes about 6 hours. Neighborhood Law takes lunch from 12 to 1pm so expect interruption if you don’t arrive early, Good luck.

This place is a complete joke. Almost 10 months of thinking this place was going to help me with a unemployment overpayment situation from the pandemic. I spoke to Mona Lau who was completely rude and trying to accuse me of lying. Then I spoke with an attorney Amy who says that she cannot be on the phone with me for my hearing which is actually tomorrow Wednesday the 18th of October is telling me that she can't represent me and so now I'm on my own this place is a total JOKE! I sent all my pay stubs all the information the packet. I was given the wrong address to the Pacoima office went totally out of my way she didn't really care Miss Mona Lau then I had to drive all the way back to the freeway to get to Pacoima as I was almost in Sherman Oaks to get absolutely nowhere. Mona Lau says that she prepared me for this case she didn't do anything for me.

Bad service. The paralegal named Karen Toledo is very rude, arrogant and overbearing. He treats clients roughly and discourages them from returning to the offices in the future for legal help.

I came with a peace plan and to ask for help, but said person is not at all happy to help us. She always shows belligerent behavior. She doesn't want to show welcome and friendly attitude. Said assistant needs anger management classes since he does everything with that attitude and she is also very reluctantly.

Said assistant gets annoyed with any questions or doubts that we have.

Please read this is very real
Paloma and Laura were exceptional !!
Kept a disabled senior and his emotional support animal from deciding homelessness again was a very valid choice , worked out issues with county housing and property management and my care coordinator and also referred me to assistance on ssi issue and even referred me to classes that gave me skills I'll use for life to protect my tennants rights and others in the future and all at no charge . I've referred neighbors and friends already and I will be calling for any new issues .
As always details and certain regulations affect the outcome but first time out and they helped me solve very quickly and very well multiple issues and that even helped my medical issues calm down a bit.
