I have suffered through 16 years of financial/emotional abuse (being kept in the dark about finances attached to this house, my husband's impulsive mistakes along with his criminal record, and not being able to get help with Legal Aid because they DON'T have funding, or I DON'T fit their definition of an "abused" person).
I contacted Legal Aid, Veterans Legal Aid, First Call for Help and the United Way...NOTHING.
I CAN'T afford legal representation!!!
Why in the hell are these agencies in business if they can't, or WON'T help the abused, but protect the abuser?
I was told that although they DON'T have funding, if I could prove Domestic Violence (In which they define as physical, mental, emotional, and sexual), I might stand the chance of retaining counsel. After speaking with a representative about the endless financial, emotional, mental and psychological abuse I've endured throughout the 16 years of marriage, I was basically told that THAT type of abuse DOESN'T measure up to had I been PHYSICALLY abused...
So...why not just keep the abuse going because the abused CAN'T afford to fight her abuser?
