Hoppe took a $1,000 retainer and subsequently didn’t do any work whatsoever for a case that would have been easy. Both parties were in agreement on all terms and we just needed the courts to make it official. But he did nothing but take my money. (I have the receipt still) When I asked if I was able to even get half that mony back he laughed and responded “that’s not how this works.” Despite not providing me with any real services. I felt scammed and taken advantage of in a vulnerable moment. That was money I didn’t have at the time. I am aware that some people may have had a good experience with him but my guess is those people were much more financially well off than I was. Either that or he was too embarrassed to admit he made a mistake and instead of making things right he doubled down and in a sense stole money from a young single mother. I hope that if he’s reading this he knows he still has a chance to make things right with me by returning even SOME of that money.
But I doubt he ever will.

I had a wonderful experience with Jim during a terrible child custody battle I went through with my ex. Jim was very professional, listened to what I had to say, and was very realistic with what he though we would accomplish in trial. His paralegal, Melody, is also very great to work with. She was available for all of my questions at any time of the day. I couldn’t have been taken care of better. Highly recommend Jim and Melody for a difficult child custody case.

Of all of the attorneys that I could have had representing me throughout my ongoing divorce and custody case, I feel I truly hit the jackpot when Jim agreed to take me on as a client. I first met Jim back in late July 2018, and over the course of the past seven months he has become someone I not only highly respect, but trust as well. He is incredibly kind, compassionate, and hardworking. He has listened to me vent, watched me cry (on many occasions... :-/ ), and spent countless hours supporting me as I've gone through this difficult time. He has also been very honest and upfront as to what he feels he can accomplish with my case, and for that I am extremely grateful. I completely trust his advice, and for the first time in a very long time, feel like I have someone who really has my back and wants what's best not only for me, but my children as well. Not great. Paid his minimum retainer but James knew I was broke as a result of my husband leaving and I believe therefore treated my case as an annoyance. He didn't take my questions and concerns seriously; he either laughed them off as non-issues or ignored them completely. Didn't prep me for court or prepare me for what paperwork I needed to bring to court. Twice I waited over an hour in his office for scheduled appointments that he was late for (wasting my precious paid time off work). My questions about how to get help enforcing child support went unanswered. I'm happy to have been awarded temporary custody of my daughter while the divorce was in progress, but any lawyer could have done that for me. Finally, my official divorce decree has his sloppy handwriting in it because he forgot to include my name change in print. And he mailed it to my old address after I'd updated him with my new one. This lawyer isn't for everyone. Would not recommend.

Mr. Hoppe made my divorce smooth and as easy as possible, although it easily could have turned into something quite the opposite. He had it under control and addressed all of my concerns in a very timely manner. Mr. Hoppe has a great sense of humor and is very personable. James Hoppe screwed my custody case by completely missing the court date, and filing the appeal on the case to late. He then tried to blame me and refused to give me a full refund on my retainer fee. All around a terrible experience and I would not recommend him to anyone.

Do not go to Jim Hoppe. My father went to him in September for a motor vehicle accident case and he has promised us the case would be settled at the end of month. He made this statement month after months. AMI tried to sue my father for the amount he owed due to imaging he had related to motor vehicle accident that Jim said he has already taken care of. It is now July and Jim was still promising the case will be settled soon. Jim also stated that the other side had not made an offer. After ten months along with the summon from AMI for 1400 dollars I ended up giving Jim a termination letter. I spoke to representative for the person at fault in the accident and the case has been settled today. After clarification I learned that Jim did not make any contact with the representative so therefore the statement he made about not getting any offers is inaccurate. I was also surprised to learn Jim sent a letter that he informed us to take care of the case ourselves to the representative on 06/30/2020 however the day I came to his clinic to give him termination letter and take back all our files was on 06/25/2020. I do not recommend this lawyer to anyone!
