Hacking Law and the team have been AMAZING to work with. The process of getting together my husband’s packet for immigration was very detailed, clear and looked over with a tight eye! I love the fact that my questions got answered, the knowledge that this office has and overall comfortability I felt during the process made me feel at ease! The funny thing is he was on TikTok and consistently was seeing Mr. Hacking answering people questions and going live often. This drove him to share the live with me while I was at work. We had an awful experience with our previous lawyer and I was determined not to hire another lawyer for this phase of our journey due to what was experienced. I was going to attempt to do it myself. Great source for tons of free immigration law information. I've only been watching the Youtube videos for about four weeks now, and I have learned more than I thought possible. They host almost daily call-in Youtube shows, and it is quite apparent that they are genuinely concerned for the immigrant community and want to help. I don’t doubt their abilities to be great lawyers, but 1 star for my case as they disappointed heavily. This a high-volume niche firm and I felt treated low priority with no traditional client relationship, more like the fast-food chain version of a legal experience. Not a problem if that’s what you need, but absolutely no 1:1 client experience, trust, or any real passion or interest shown to me for someone that needs help to go from war refugee to achieving a life-long goal of citizenship. Not indicative of ALL client experiences or their founder’s vision, but in my case I definitely don’t feel that “investment in the local immigration community” vibe at all.

Context: war refugee child from the Bosnian war, legal permanent resident since 1998. Had problems adjusting, including PTSD from violence seen and swiftly bullied in school due to being different. Minor issues lashing out as a kid, few run ins with the law, and a few financial mistakes with delayed tax filings early on. Nothing major. TODAY: no criminal record, clean driver’s license, over 15 years growing myself: previous software/tech founder, widely regarded and respected in the real estate industry, on committees and boards for local housing/neighborhood efforts, active stakeholder in downtown STL’s revival, etc…and I chose Hacking (excitedly) to finally help me apply for my citizenship. It wasn’t a priority before as I feel American and happy here. It is now, as my mother attained hers recently, she’s getting older, my father has passed, and she’s now retired, neither of us have been back to visit Bosnia since 1998. We have family we haven’t seen since. I want to be able to take her to visit one last time, and I have a lovely partner over 7 years now that yearns to visit the world. It’s now VERY important to me, and I wanted the best choice. I’ve followed Jim Hacking for 8 years until I was ready.

Experience: I called in, explained I wanted to kickoff a service for N400 Naturalization but with an additional thorough review of my eligibility at the forefront including helping me collect necessary documents requested by the process, got connected with a (I think non-local lawyer in Chicago?), went over details, got given a roughly $4000 quote for the standard process but extras may apply to me, I said that’s fine. She stated she would check my next steps with another attorney and personally email me to start the process within a day or two. No contact from her after as promised. A virtual assistant instead emailed me asking to upload all documents (the ones I said I wanted them to gather) into a link “so the attorney can decide” if it’s sufficient to proceed.

The simple ask: kick off a proper 1:1 client lawyer relationship to include a review of eligibility & documentation pulls as needed, then apply for N400. Willing to pay for service as needed, including extras, but want it done right and not relying on my sole memory or documentation, and instead they take charge start to end as “experts.”

Their promise: Attorney says no problem, we can help, I will follow up next steps personally.

Their delivery: complete opposite of what I asked. No follow up from real attorney. Random assistant asking for memory based info and personal & sensitive documents emailed via a link “to determine my eligibility” after nothing but a 20 min phone call with not even a follow up from said attorney much-less any actual client process. Emailed saying no not what we agreed upon (in a professional demeanor), and that I feel mistreated coming off as a low priority client simply because I’m not fitting into your standard high-volume process, and would like to once again request what I asked or if they aren’t interested in doing that then this may not be a good fit.

Final result: NO ANSWER, 1 week later, no attempt to retain my business, not even to say “sorry we couldn’t make it work, let us know if you change your mind.” —

YOU TELL ME: is this indicative of what Jim Hacking preaches on his advertising about genuinely caring about helping immigrants?
