We can not express how GREAT Dr. Coughlin and his staff were with our son and his procedure. Dr. Coughlin was very thorough with every step of the procedure. My son had been pain for about 3 yrs. and the last year it just progressively got worse. After a year of different tests Dr. Coughlin preformed the surgery. He came and explained everything to me while my son was in recovery. The follow up was just as amazing as everything else.

We also want to give a big THANK YOU to Ms. Gloria. She helped me from the day I called in tears trying to get relief for my son. So Thank you so very much for taking my call that day and ensuring me everything was going to ok.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Coughlin. He is truly one of the most compassionate physicians I’ve ever met. From being in the delivery room when I was born to doing a few surgery’s on me. He always goes out of his way in every way possible to ensure outstanding care. I can’t thank him and his entire team enough for everything. If you’re looking for a pediatric general surgeon, I would recommend him to absolutely anyone.

If I could give him 0 stars i would. I have never felt so belittled and degraded by a dr before in my life. Took my 3 month old son in to have his hydroseal repaired and prior to the surgery we had spoken about 5 times and each time he was in and out in less than 5 mins and onto the next person. Did not give me detailed instructions about before, during and after the surgery. My son now has an infection and he has made me feel like it is my fault that hes sick because he “tried telling me he was too little for surgery” and if that really was the case he should have explained more and refused to do the surgery. He was SO rude to me and my mother in law who came with me and made her and i feel like we were crazy for being concerned about his infection. Please dont ever take your kid here. Im so upset and will be finding somewhere else to go from now on. He takes advantage of young parents and doesnt take you seriously.

My son had to go in for emergency surgery and Dr. Coughlin was the on call surgeon. Thanks to him, my son made a full recovery. He saved my sons life. It was such a scary time and he helped make the whole process much easier to get through. I'll forever be grateful for Dr. C and his expertise.

The initial visit was short and brief, but okay. Then when my teenage daughter didn't want to take the capsules prescribed , I was told they weren't going to prescribe the liquid. The representative gave me such attitude for even asking , it made me feel as though my daughter's needs are insignificant and she hadn't even had the surgery yet.

My son had surgery 9/18 with Dr. Coughlin, I had met him once before for the initial consultation. That first visit was very brief about 3 minutes in the room with him. He simply said "I'll take that out" he gave me a folder with paperwork and told me schedule the surgery. No explanation really. I asked if I should be concerned he responded "it's benign." Shook my hand and left. The first visit I didn't think too much of it. The day of the surgery was fine, they took him back and had it all done in about 35 minutes. He came after and explained the recovery and so on. Still I was fine with his care. When the follow ups started is when I started to me weary. I had been keeping my sons wound clean, dry and covered. Following the directions of the nurses. First visit he said the wound was healing fine even though my instinct told me it wasn't. I was told to stop covering it and he was allowed to do baths now. He had also just finished his antibiotic. He wanted to see him again in two weeks. As the days went by my son was complaining more and more of pain and I didn't see the wound getting better. on Saturday 9/29 his wound ripped open. There was a gaping hole in his leg and I was freaking out. First thing I do is wrap his leg with gauze to stop the bleeding. I then call Dr. Coughlin and tell him what had happened. He said "Put gauze on it and come see me on Monday." I was confused no ER no anything? I used my mother's instinct and took him the urgent care anyways because the size of the hole and the bleeding. There they flushed out the wound, put some butterfly stitches and gauze over that. I kept changing the gauze and by Monday 10/1/18 the butterfly stitches had came off. It had closed a bit but was now draining a green fluid. Dr. Coughlin saw him said it was not infected despite the look and the drainage and told me to keep covering it and to do water/soap soaks. I was unhappy with his response to the incident so I took my son to see his pediatrician that same day. He took a look at it and said again it was not infected despite the redness all around, the pain he was feeling and the green drainage. They put butterfly stitches again and sent me on my way. I tried not too think too much and accept what the doctors had told me even though I still felt like they weren't doing enough. Now Wednesday 10/3 comes along and my 2 year old is limping and in constant pain, the wound is still open, still draining green fluid and look even redder than before. I decided I am will take him to St. Joseph's children's hospital. Long story short there I was told his wound is indeed infected like I had suspected so long ago. They sent him an oral antibiotic 3/times a day for 7 days and a antibiotic ointment 3/times a day for 7 days. Without naming the doctor he knew of the bad reputation of Dr. Coughlin and recommended I follow up with their pediatric surgeon which I will be doing. During most of my follow up visits and even the very first consultation Dr. Coughlin is a very intimidating man and doesn't really allow much speaking to go on. Like the ER doctor had said "It's either his way or the highway." To some this might not seem like a big deal but for the health of my child it is. If I didn't keep insisting how long would my little boy had gone with an infected wound in his leg? Till it spread? Till he couldn't walk? I wasn't prepared to find out. Based on previous reviews you can see that most reviews talk about the same thing. Don't use Dr. Coughlin go to St. Joseph's Children's. It is now 10/12 and my son’s wound still has not healed and I am currently working with a St. Joe’s surgeon to figure what we’re going to do.
