Hours aren't great for the restaurant, but during this time can you fault them? The airport is great, they offer helicopter rides to tour big bear. They offer self serve gas if you need it. No landing fee and usually there is a restaurant where you can get food. What more can you ask for. The snow was mostly melted when we flew in. Very nice for a day landing and to grab a bite to eat. Don't forget to check the hours of the brainstorm restaurant.

Great little GA airport. Tie downs and chocks provided. $5 single-engine overnight fee/$7 twin. It can get icy in the mornings in the winter- we landed an arrow and archer and then had to break through the ice on the ramp to access the tie down ports. There’s now a free shuttle that stops at the airport too every half hour to go into town/access the ski resorts!

Great airport to practice your high altitude maneuvers! Also, the airport manager went WAY out of his way to give us a ride to the village since we arrived after bus service had stopped. If everyone was as kind as this guy the world would be an amazing place. Thank you and can't wait until our next trip.

Flying into Big Bear is one of the most fun destinations in Southern California. The airport is open all year and they clear the snow quickly for safe access. The 6,752 foot field elevation creates a density altitude issue for pilots to be responsible for, but the joy of flying in with the fragrance of the forrest air is part of the experience. The airport district provides the lowest priced Avgas as an enticement to visit. The Barnstorm Cafe on the field is an exceptional location to have a meal in the mountains with a view. Old timers will remember when the Mandarin Garden {and Red Barron} restaurants gave visitors two options to dine. You don’t have to be a pilot to enjoy the amenities of the airport as a visitor here. You will be glad you discovered this unique airfield whether you fly in or drive.
