Today 3/21/25 I heard from Steve at Powell Law Firm. I was able to get all of my supporting docs as well as past returns he had in his possession. I would wish the communication were better in this and other areas of concern below. Steve assured me that the penalty abatement would be refunded so I will await that. I do want to say our tax returns were done professionally both years that we used Powell Law Firm despite the lack of communication I experienced. I have updated my prior review to the above and increased the star rating.

I am not sure how y'all give this firm the reviews I see here. Also, this not a review I am loving to share but there comes a point that it needs to be shared to spare someone some frustration I have had with Powell Law Firm.
We hired the firm in tax years 2022/2023 to complete our personal and corporate returns… I had multiple problems one of which the Corp return never had an extension request filed by the firm in time unbeknownst to me only to find a letter from The IRS in my mailbox for late filing and failure to file fee of $1700.00+ in which we had to pay. What?! All of our tax info needed to file the return was dropped off at the firm in our initial meeting with Steve in February with the understanding an extension would be filed by them in plenty of time….. After I got the letter in the mailbox from the IRS and called Powell and left multiple messages and emails I finally found out what happened by calling the IRS….. Either the firm never filed ( or late filed) or they failed to follow up to be certain our return was received by the IRS with proof………. Either way there is a Lesson: don’t make the assumption that I did that your professionals are handling it the way you would!!! Follow up on it yourself and ask for PROOF…or you could be out of pocket thousands of dollars at no fault at all of your own.
Secondly, I have yet to receive back some original returns/ and some supporting documents I shared so they could see how a few things were handled in the past…. Still waiting on a return email from them about these important documents that I really would like to have back in my possession. Which leads me to another biggie: The communication is very poor almost nonexistent regardless if you send an email or leave a voice mail. Not even a reply in my half a dozen ( or more) attempts to reach them Over various questions pertaining to tax related matters as a small business owner over the 2 years we have hired them to complete our tax returns. Very unprofessional regardless if you aren’t a fan of tax season or not you still have an obligation to your clients to communicate and at the very least return an email. I would have given one star but I happen to like Steve and think he's a really nice guy. I also think he’s probably really efficient and better at representing you to the IRS should you need that service. I welcome any feedback from Powell Law Firm.

MUST READ if you need a good tax attorney. Steve Powell and his staff are the best & most professional firm I know. Forget all the radio ADS these folks are amazing, they prepare and file your taxes and they take over all of your stress and anxiety, they do things right, know the complex tax law & show results. I've used them for almost a decade and they gave us the best advice and helped us in many ways. Look no further, truly pro's with compassion, but tough. Dealing with taxes is not my thing I thank God for a firm like Powell Tax Law.
